NUMB CHIN SYNDROME AS THE INITIAL PARANEOPLASTIC MANIFESTATION IN A 40-YEAR-OLD WOMAN
Abstract
Numb chin syndrome is characterized by dysesthesia and/or hypoesthesia-anesthesia in the lower lip, chin, lower gingiva and teeth, and is usually unilateral. It is a non-frequent syndrome, associate with malignant processes. It is a poor prognosis indicator and requires a systematic search for the underlying processes, mainly lymphoproliferative processes and breast cancer in women. We present the case of a 40-year-old woman without pathological history who reported mandibular dysesthesias. Complementary studies confrmed the presence of stage IV Burkitt lymphoma. The patient died 45 days after the onset of the symptoms.
Key words. Numb chin syndrome, Burkitt lymphoma, mental nerve dysesthesia, sensory disturbance, trigeminal neuropathy.
