DETECTION, PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT OF BURNOUT SURVEY TO HEADS OF INTERNAL MEDICINE RESIDENCY PROGRAMS

Resumen

Con el objetivo de recabar información proveniente de los responsables de los programas de residencias en la Argentina, en 2017 se realizó una encuesta sobre: el relevamiento de determinantes del síndrome de burnout, la detección, la prevención, el apoyo del afectado y el seguimiento de la estrategia preventiva. Hubo 65 respondedores en representación de 49 instituciones. No hubo grandes diferencias entre las instituciones. La mayoría de los hospitales tenían entre 11 y 30 residentes por servicio y todos contaban con programas y responsables del mismo. La supervisión es insuficiente en el 55%. El cumplimiento de los programas de residencias se aleja de lo deseado. Más del 50% responde que no existen programas para la detección y prevención de problemáticas del burnout. El 65% de los responsables de los programas no tuvieron entrenamiento sobre el tema de liderazgos positivos y negativos. El 40% no cuenta con ayuda de un equipo de salud mental. El 35% de las instituciones están interiorizadas en el tema, pero sólo el 15% de las autoridades tiene una actitud proactiva al respecto. El 70% opina que la condición retributiva impacta en el burnout.

Abstract
In order to gather information from those responsible for the residency programs in Argentina, a survey was carried out in 2017, linked to items such as the detection of determinants of burnout syndrome, detection, prevention, support of the affected and monitoring of the preventive strategy. There were 65 respondents representing 49 institutions. There were no big differences among the institutions. Most hospitals had between 11 and 30 residents per service and all had programs and responsibles for it. Supervision is insufficient in 55% of the cases. The fulfillment of the residential programs is far from desired. More than 50% answer that there are no programs for the detection and prevention of burnout problems. 65% of those responsible for the programs did not have training on the subject of positive and negative leadership. 40% do not receive help from a mental health team. 35% of the institutions are familiar with the subject, but only 15% of the authorities have a proactive attitude in this regard. 70% think that the remuneration impacts
on burnout.
